Dictus Bands

Has anyone else here tried Dictus Bands?

Dictus Band

Jason from Canada writes:

They were recommended to me recently by the clinic that I go to, and I purchased a pair.

They work really well to keep my toes from dropping, and allow for some flexibility, unlike the big stiff and Rigid AFO’s. But I also found that they are even more effective when combined with a semi-rigid wrap-around ankle stabilizer.

It’s far from a cure or anything like that, but I can honestly say it’s the best combination of user friendly and effectiveness that I have used as of yet.

  1. Hi Jason
I too have some Dictus Bands.
They are good at helping with toe drop and I also staggered the hook placement in my shoelace eyelets to also provide me with a bit of help to straighten (rotate outwards) my feet while walking.
I do a gym program which involves kneeling and they can be worn for that, I also have FES Walkaide units but find they work better than the Dictus Bands and are very expensive, but they don’t allow me to kneel as they are worn just below the knee and are a bit bulkier.

Have you used the indoor part of the Dictus Bands?
If so,how do you find them?

  2. I have used it, on and off, for a number of years now and always found to assist me when my footdrop was getting worse. It’s a simple but effective device and very affordable.

I’d recommend it to anyone who has footdrop problems.

  3. Great idea, I have ataxia 7 my foot size is 8, also a female. Does it matter what type of sneaker you wear? โ“

  4. Hi Lucrezia
I don’t think it matters so long as you have eyelets to put the small metal hooks in OR there is an included adapter (see image above) to go under the laces and provide a hook for the band to lift the front of the foot. Just search Dictus Bands on Google and you’ll see images.
I use the steel hooks in the shoe eyelets but the choice is available. You should ask the seller whether they are right to use with your shoes.
There is also a way to wear them without shoes (see Google). Good Luck ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I am a new hsper although I had been diagnosed with Asymmetric CerebellarAtaxia.About a year ago I was advised to use the dictus bands after having regular falls, tripping over the slightest hazard. Since using them I have had not one fall, and am much more confident going out!
