Two new videos available
Here are two new videos on exercise and stretching from the SP Foundation in the USA that are good, simple and easy to follow and use.
These exercises can be done at home without any special equipment. The people doing the exercises and stretching in the videos are HSPers – and that’s a plus!
Thank you so much!! I have HSP and had a hip replacement last November. I am doing well, but want to get back to exercising and stretching and was looking for the best and safest ones for people with my condition. I like the slow tip as I usually do this anyway, but knowing it’s best for me is helpful.
Editor’s Note: A clinical trial in Germany investigated a series of exercises specifically designed for HSP and came up with a set of exercises that have been shown to be significantly more effective than other exercise programs. The program will be available on video in English hopefully in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, here is the German version: https://www.treathsp.net/klinik/physiotherapie
As you have had a hip replacement, if you are thinking of undertaking this program, best to do so with the guidance of your physical therapist.
Gday all
I am Nev and a HSP person
My whole life I have had pain and disscomfort with what I thought always was my HSP.
I was wrong . I have used Marijuahna and alchohol all my life as I have always had discomfort with my legs and feet.
I thought the pain was my disability.
I was Wrong.
I have recently bought a $40 foot spa from kmart and a Endaperm ointment from chemist and with this combination I have now stopped using Marijuhana and alcohol as pain management .
My problem has been for reasons of not cleaning my feet correctly for decades an unable to bend to do this I have had build up of skin on feet and between toes . With using foot spa and having to remove skin build up I have had vast improvement in my pain which has also improved my walking as pain has nearly gone . I have been onto this for more than 3 months now and the improvement is measurable. We HSP persons sometimes struggle with proper hygiene, especially on our feet .
I now use a chair in bathroom and spend along time cleaning my feet correctly which has made a massive difference .
So Please try this method and see if You get any benefit as I have . The skin removal is the biggest thing and you may need assistance with this . The build up of the skin we don’t recognise and do not realise seems to have been for me the biggest thing in my HSP struggle. I hope this information may help anyone as much as it has helped me . Thanx

This disease is so rare that there isn’t much information on it. I am mobile but my body is so tight. my hip/butt hurts always, legs jump, and regular back spasms. My daughter has a case worse than mine. I wish there was more info.
I have it , some days way worse than others. At times embarrassing but life goes on and there are many people with far worse conditions than mine.Keep active and strong , stretch regularly , the pool is your friend and is a great way to train . Exercise for fitness , health , strength ,mobility, flexibility as well as your mental health.
I have HSP, my sister, my niece and son has it. I’m 70 and legs are getting weaker. I used to roller stake, ride a bike and walk long distances. Not anymore. It’s frustrating. What are the best exercises to put strength back in my legs?
Editor’s note: Unfortunately for people with HSP, it is not as simple as that. HSP is characterised by a combination of weakness and spasticity, which varies a lot from individual to individual. Both need to be assessed and considered in determining how best to maximise mobility. It is possible to improve strength but needs to be done so that spasticity is not made worse. The best advice for people with HSP is to find a specialist allied health professional such as a neuro physiotherapist, or a rehabilitation clinic, or an exercise physiologist with special training in neurological conditions.
