Fund Raiser in Q’ld

“We urge all members to do a similar event when a special birthday or other special occasions arise.  We were overwhelmed by people’s generosity and we are sure you will be too.”

. . . Narelle & Ian

Narelle from Queensland sent us this lovely story of a simple and successful fund-raising formula:

"The formation of the HSP Research Foundation has given my husband Ian, who suffers from HSP, a sense of hope for the future.  We have been married for 29 years and I have felt a strong need in the last few years to improve Ian’s quality of life, as his condition deteriorates.  Now that there is a support group in Australia, family and friends of HSP sufferers can all help with fundraising, without too much effort.

As my 50th birthday was approaching I kept thinking about whether I should have a party.  When a letter came from the HSP Foundation saying that $33,000 needed to be raised, this helped me make my decision.  I made a list of all the people who had been a special part of the 50yr journey of my life.  About 170 people were invited.  I was fortunate that I was able to use our church hall and facilities at no cost.  I requested that no presents be given but rather a donation to the HSP Research Foundation would be gratefully accepted.

A lot of people offered to bring a plate of food which helped keep costs down.  We had an information table where Ian was able to sit and write out receipts if people requested them.  It was one of the best days of my life as it was not only a celebration for me but one for Ian also.  A total of $2000 was raised for the Foundation which has been a support to us.  We urge all members to do a similar event when a special birthday or other special occasions arise.  We were overwhelmed by people’s generosity and we are sure you will be too."
