Swollen feet and legs

related to HSP?

Are swollen feet and legs a problem with HSP? I have that at the present time. I did break my hip 8 weeks ago, I think my doctor is not sure what is causing it, have been taking fluid tablets in large amounts with not much luck, going tomorrow to have my legs scanned for blood clots and next week a heart test, echocardiogram.

Does anyone else have this problem with HSP, if so what is being done about it?

Would love to hear, thanks.

  1. hi jan. swollen feet is a problem with hsp. I have had HSP for over twenty years and a blood clot in one leg, maybe because I find it difficult to walk now. with thanks gerald

  2. Thanks for your reply Gerald, had all the tests done no blood clots & nothing wrong with my heart, but alas I still have swollen ankles & feet. The other drug that could have caused it was an infusion I had after I broke my hip to strengthen my bones & help with a lot of other things related to bones was an Aclasta infusion & that was one of the side effects, so I will now have swollen & sore bones around my ankles for 12 months I am told, just what I needed. ๐Ÿ™

  3. Hi, Grant here. I have swollen legs and feet. I was told to cut down on coffee, I was drinking 5 cups a day. Also lift legs up higher than yourself when sitting down. I ride an exercise bike a few times a week when possible. I also have a Revitive Circulation Booster that I use 5 or 6 times a week and it helps to keep the swelling down quite a lot. Sometimes it is not noticeable. it is great I’m drinking a bit more water.

  4. I have one swollen foot and ankle, they blame me breaking my other ankle for the swelling as weight bearing, I do have a heavy elastic sock for that one foot. But I have been told to do deep breathing holding my breath in between this will draw the fluid up to were it should be !!!

  5. carolyn posted 6/12 2014 I deal with swollem knees ,very painful, legs, ankles, and feet nothing really being done that helps tried Lassie, did not work caused me to dehyrate my body.I am also dealing with iron anemia, not sure if this has any thing to do with HSP. sure would love a cure to be normal again, I was for years ,this is progressing very fast see it in 2 of my 4 children ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

  6. Hi Jan, my reply is somewhat late but here is my experience:
Some years ago I had a chronic problem with swollen feet and lower legs. At that stage, I had been diagnosed with HSP (SPG4) for about 11 years although some of the symptoms had become evident many years earlier. My GP reluctantly prescribed Lasix and I found the drug ineffective after a short time and stopped taking them. My wife (a registered nurse) suggested compression stockings. I have worn Venosan (V6001 below knee, open toe) ever since, from getting out of bed in morning to going to bed at night. I sleep without them because my legs are at the same height as the rest of my body and blood and other fluids should flow better around my body. These are quite high compression stockings and sell for about $63 but my health fund covers most of the cost.
I would suggest you discuss that you talk to your doctor first to ensure that there is not a heart or kidney problem causing this problem.
As my neurologist explained to me, with declining mobility, the leg circulation stagnates and blood and other fluids pool in the lower leg.

  7. I have swollen legs and feet. I am a substitute teacher so I stand a lot. It is better after I put my feet up and while sleeping. I had fractured my left kneecap in 2016, but that was 3 years ago. I would like to know how HSP causes swollen feet and legs. ๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ™„
