I have a two clients (a brother 51yrs and sister 49yrs) both of whom have HSP, both confined to wheelchairs. The brother however is experiencing increasing aphasia, cognitive impairment, memory loss and loss of fine motor skills in his hands. Are there any exercises, mind/memory training or speech training available to try and slow the progression of these symptoms?
Editor’s note: To assess the potential for managing and ameliorating HSP symptoms and maximise quality of life, it is best to start with the patient’s neurologist and then engage with the appropriate allied health professionals that may include neurophysiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy.
